My Workflow with the Fujifilm X100VI –
How My Perfect Photo Comes to Life
People often ask me how I edit my photos, what I focus on, and which settings or lenses I use. In this post, I'll take you through my workflow.
Always Ready: The Fujifilm X100VI
My Fujifilm X100VI goes everywhere with me. I rarely carry it in a bag – it’s always slung over my shoulder with a strap, ready to go. 😜
Anyone familiar with Fujifilm knows that you can save up to seven custom settings. A smart photographer makes full use of this feature – and so do I! 😂 I have seven different Fujifilm recipes stored and choose the right one based on the situation and my mood.
Most of the time, I use my own custom recipe, which I’ll share with you soon. However, Classic Negative is often my second choice because it creates a unique look. 😍
My Favorite Focal Length: 23mm f/2
Since I shoot almost exclusively with my X100VI, my focal length is limited to 23mm (35mm full-frame equivalent). Yes, I do own both tele and wide-angle converters (TCL X100II & WCL X100II), but I rarely use them.
So, that answers the question about my favorite focal length. 😅
How I Find My Subjects
Now you might be wondering: How does this guy find his subjects? Well, let me tell you!
I believe that you either have an eye for great subjects, composition, and lighting… or you learn it. 😂
I struggled at first to capture strong shots in different situations. But trust me: photography is a learning process! What’s important is commitment and practice!
I pay close attention to light, colors, and unique subjects in my surroundings. Once I spot something interesting, I experiment with different compositions until I’m happy with the result. I like to use:
Leading lines
The golden ratio
Breaking rules for creative effects
And sometimes? Sometimes it’s just about capturing that perfect moment. The play of light and shadow, an unexpected reflection, or a candid expression – these are the magical shots that evoke emotion and stick in your memory.
Storytelling Through Photography
For me, photography is about telling a story. The viewer should feel like they were right there in the moment. This is where Fujifilm film simulations come in handy, allowing me to see the "almost finished" photo directly on the display.
I don’t shoot in burst mode just to have as many images as possible. Instead, I focus on getting the perfect shot right in-camera, so ideally, I only need one photo.
Through this focused workflow and the use of Fujifilm simulations, I save a lot of time in post-processing and can spend more time doing what I love: photography!
