Why the Fujifilm X100VI Is My One and Only Camera – My Journey

I've tested so many cameras in my life, and every single time, I thought:
"This is it. This is the one. I’m going to grow old with this camera."

But guess what? I never kept any of them.

Why? Well, a mix of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), my brain constantly whispering “Come on, you need something new!”, and the fact that I hated carrying around heavy gear all the time.

So, I’d order a new camera, get super hyped, and then... a few weeks later, the excitement would fade. And the cycle would start all over again.
Oh, and let’s not forget: my ADHD definitely played a role here. 😄

My Camera Journey – From Sony to Fujifilm

After going through brands like Sony, Lumix, and Ricoh, I finally walked into a small camera store in my hometown in 2021 and came across the Fujifilm X-T30.

I loved the design and the price, so I grabbed the kit with the XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 and took it home.

A few weeks later, I had a trip to Tenerife planned – the perfect chance to put this setup to the test. But before I left, a friend convinced me to buy a Fujifilm X70 as well.

And just like that, I had two cameras in my bag.

Discovering Film Simulations & My Struggle with Editing

At the time, I had no idea that Fujifilm cameras allowed you to create your own film recipes—a feature that could save so much time in post-processing.

Even so, I barely took any photos on that trip, and when I finally looked at them, I felt disappointed. They just didn’t turn out the way I had imagined.

This feeling stuck with me for months. Something was missing, and I wasn’t happy with the way I was shooting.

From the X-T30 to the X-E4 – Still Searching for the One

Hoping for better results, I traded my X-T30 for an X-E4, thinking it would somehow improve my photography. (Spoiler: It didn’t. The camera doesn’t make the photos, the photographer does!)

Then came the X-S10, which I took on a trip to Borkum for a few relaxing days.

But again, I had the same issue: it just wasn’t the right fit for me. Also, I wasn’t a fan of the PASM dial setup.

The X100V Temptation – My Minimalist Dream?

At this point, I started diving deep into Fujifilm’s Film Simulations. The images I saw on social media looked absolutely stunning, and I wanted to achieve a similar look.

One camera kept popping up: the Fujifilm X100V.

After a lot of back and forth, I decided to go all in and make it my only camera—a little challenge for myself.

For a few weeks, it actually worked... but then my mind went into chaos again. It just wasn’t quite right. So, I sold the X100V and bought an X-T5 instead.

I was genuinely happy with the X-T5 and a bunch of lenses:

  • XF23mm f/1.4

  • XF33mm f/1.4

  • XF35mm f/1.4 (legendary!)

  • XF56mm f/1.4

I had almost all the lenses I ever wanted, and I loved most of them. But in the end, I wanted something more compact.

Tenerife Again – X100V vs. X-T5 Showdown

In April 2024, after the Fujifilm X100VI was announced, I found a great deal on a used X100V.

I brought both the X100V and X-T5 on another trip to Tenerife.

And guess what?
The X-T5 stayed in the hotel room while the X100V soaked up the island vibes. 😄

That’s when I realized:
This is the camera I’ve been looking for all along.

Why I Finally Chose the X100VI

By this time, I had let go of the idea of becoming a professional wedding photographer or anything like that. I just wanted to shoot for fun, without stress.

Then, in July 2024, I got an unexpected message:
"You’re next on the waiting list for the X100VI—if you want it, send the payment."

I slept on it for one night… then sent the money.

Two days later, it was in my hands.

And what can I say?
I’M STILL IN LOVE! 😍

Why the Fujifilm X100VI is My Perfect Camera

For my style of photography, there is no better camera. Here’s why:

Compact & stylish – It goes everywhere with me
40MP sensor – Plenty of resolution for cropping (even though I rarely do)
Great for video – If I ever feel like shooting some footage
Film Simulations – Stunning colors straight out of the camera
Converter lenses – Extra flexibility without swapping lenses

Final Thoughts – The Only Camera I’ll Ever Need

After years of buying, selling, and constantly switching gear, I’ve finally found the one.

The Fujifilm X100VI is compact, powerful, and incredibly fun to shoot with. It lets me focus on my creativitywithout getting bogged down by technical details.

I can’t wait to share more about my daily life with the X100VI and how it fits into my workflow in my next blog post.
